Apart from the obvious – marrying the love of your life! – there are many things that contribute to making a wedding the most special day. One of these would be the location – and another would be the knowledge that your memories will be preserved forever …
… so surely a perfect combination is having your wedding in the hauntingly beautiful Lake District, with a photographer who can capture the ambience perfectly?
“A thing of beauty is a joy for ever”
Thank you John Keats (opening line of his poem Endymion) for reminding us. Of course, it’s not enough simply to find a wonderful spot in the lakes – although that’s a great start! – you need a photographer who knows the area perfectly, who can seek out and find the perfect shot, who understands the tricks that the light plays, who flawlessly captures the moment … and who doesn’t commit the cardinal sin of “getting in the way”.
And photographers like this aren’t that easy to find … and the last thing you want to do in planning for the big day is worry about how good the photographs are going to be. So here’s a short check-list we’ve put together to help you choose and take the worry away:
- is the photographer a wedding specialist?
- how many weddings have they photographed?
- have you seen their work?
- did you like it, unreservedly?
- do you think they captured the moment perfectly?
- do they live in Cumbria?
- how well do they know the lakes?
- can you imagine working with them on the day?
Isn’t it all very subjective?
Well, yes it is, really … but that’s not only inevitable but it’s also a good thing. The most wonderful things in life can’t be measured, or costed, they have to be felt.
If you’ve met your photographer, run through the check-list, and you feel good about working with them … and the date and the t&c’s work … it’s time to make a decision. And you can trust your intuition!
One thing we haven’t mentioned – and it’s really important – is the word fun. As the Beatles wisely sang, fun is the one thing that money can’t buy.
You can have the very best of everything, but if the photographer doesn’t enhance the day then there’s something missing. That’s where we come in.

We finish this time with William Blake:
“Love seeketh not itself to please,
Nor for itself hath any care,
But for another gives its ease,
And builds a Heaven in Hell’s despair.”
